The Wharton Club of Hong Kong is delighted to have Dean Erika James of The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in a fireside conversation with Catherine Leung W'90, Co-Founder and Partner of MizMaa Ventures, Chair Board of Governors of The Wharton Club of Hong Kong; to unlock the paradox of "Navigating Turbulent Times and emerging more Resilient".

Special arrangements have been made for an interactive hybrid session, live over two-way video conferencing, to provide a seamless interactive experience.

Foster the Wharton camaraderie, with a sumptuous Buffet dinner and drinks to catch up with fellow Alumni in Hong Kong, post Dean's session.

7:00-8:00 PM : Conversation with Dean, followed by Q&A
8:00 PM onwards: Buffet Dinner

IMPORTANT COVID GUIDELINES

Alumni and guests should be fully vaccinated and must present photo of a negative rapid antigen test (RAT) result obtained within 24 hours before entering the Function Rooms. Their name, day and time of taking the RAT shall be indicated on the RAT testing kid.

About the Speaker

Erika H. James became the dean of the Wharton School on July 1, 2020. Trained as an organizational psychologist, Dean James is a leading expert on crisis leadership, workplace diversity and management strategy.

Prior to her appointment at Wharton, Dean James was the John H. Harland Dean at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School from 2014 to 2020. An award-winning educator, accomplished consultant and researcher, she is the first woman and first person of color to be appointed dean in Wharton’s 141-year history. As such she has paved the way for women in leadership both in education and corporate America. Dean James has been instrumental in developing groundbreaking executive education programs, including the Women’s Leadership program at the University of Virginia’s Darden School.

Known internationally, Dean James was named as one of the “Top 10 Women of Power in Education” by Black Enterprise and as one of the “Power 100” by Ebony. She has been quoted as an expert thought leader by the Wall Street Journal, MSNBC, CNN.com, and numerous other media outlets.

In addition to her academic responsibilities, Dean James is a board member of Morgan Stanley, SurveyMonkey, a California-based market research and customer-experience company, The Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center, Inc. and several organizations that align with her passion for education and advancing women in business. Additionally, she serves as an advisory board member to Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management and as an executive board member to the Indian School of Business.

She is the co-author of the forthcoming book The Prepared Leader: Emerge from Any Crisis More Resilient Than Before (Wharton School Press; September 20, 2022) with Lynn Perry Wooten, President of Simmons University.

Dean James holds a Ph.D. and master’s degree in organizational psychology from the University of Michigan, as well as a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Pomona College of the Claremont Colleges in California

About the Moderator

Catherine K.C. Leung W'90 is Co-Founder and Partner of MizMaa Ventures.  She Is currently a board member of Orca.ai, Aurora Labs, ClearML, Varada, and Statehub.  Prior to MizMaa Ventures, Catherine was an investment banker for twenty years and last served as Vice Chairman of Asia Investment Banking at JP Morgan where she led with a focus of Greater China.  Under her leadership, JP Morgan was named Best Investment Bank in Hong Kong for eight consecutive years.  She has advised clients in marquee IPO’s, mergers and acquisitions, debt and derivative transactions.  She was named Top 20 Women in Finance by Finance Asia in 2011.

Catherine worked as a management consultant at Oliver Wyman & Co in U.S. and London from 1990 and 1994.  She graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, summa cum laude, with majors in Finance and Accounting.

Catherine is currently member of the Penn Wharton Entrepreneurship Board and member of the Wharton Asia Executive Board.  She is an advisory board member for Eureka Nova, and member of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council Trust Fund.  She also serves as Court Member and Business School Advisory Council Member of HK University of Science and Technology where she was recipient of the Honorary Fellowship Award in 2018. Catherine is also Chairman of the Chamber of Hong Kong Listed Companies since Aug 2021.
