The Wharton Club of Hong Kong is delighted to launch its Legal Eagle Series which aims to provide legal insight, in a practical and immediately applicable fashion, on a variety of topics to business leaders in Hong Kong. The first instalment will cover a popular topic, namely Family Office establishment, and investment tools available to Family Offices (in particular, Hong Kong Limited Partnership Funds), but take a deep dive into concrete considerations, to provide a working knowledge and go beyond the broad strokes in the headlines.

Please join us for What Business Leaders Need to Know about Hong Kong’s Family Office Regime

This session will be led by Patrick Yip, who is Vice Chair at Deloitte China, and Wharton alumnus David Cameron (WG08, L08, G08) who is founder of his own Hong Kong law firm, David Cameron Law Office (www.dc-lo.com).

We are glad to announce that the Insead Alumni Association of Hong Kong (IAAHK) will collaborate with us for the event.

We also recognize that both networking and content is valuable so this event will start and end with networking and have content in the middle.

After the one-hour session, you will have working knowledge of:
  • What is a Family Office?
  • What are the Hong Kong tax advantages available to Family Offices?
  • How does one qualify as a Family Office in Hong Kong?
  • What types of services is a Family Office required to offer?
  • What is the minimum asset threshold for Family Offices?
  • What government approvals, if any, are required?
  • Is there a pathway to permanent residency status?
  • What are the new investment vehicles available?
  • What is a Hong Kong Limited Partnership Fund?
  • Is a Hong Kong Limited Partnership Fund a good fit for me and/or my clients?
  • What are the various components of a Hong Kong Limited Partnership Fund?
  • How do I set up a Hong Kong Limited Partnership Fund?
The target audience of this event is not just those in the family office space, but also those who want to be able to speak, in a more detailed and educated manner, about a hot topic in Hong Kong. Moreover, the portion on Hong Kong Limited Partnership Funds is not exclusive to Family Offices but rather it is generally available to the professional investor industry.
