The Wharton Club of Hong Kong along with American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Hong Kong, is delighted to have Paul Cheng WG'61, founding Chairman for the Wharton Club of Hong Kong, and one of our senior most alumni, as our speaker for our next Wharton Speaker Series.
Few people in History of Hong Kong have had a direct front row seat of China's relations with rest of the World and US like Paul has, both as a Business Leader and Politician.
Paul has had a decorated career spanning decades in both the US and in Asia. Paul is also the author of several books on US / China relations, including his book "On Equal Terms".
At the event, Paul will share with us his experiences from West to East over the past decades, as well as his latest thoughts on US/China relations.
This event will be an ideal platform for alumni and participants to share their thoughts about the critical US-China relationship that will for sure shape our future for decades to come. We will observe Chatham House Rules to enable a frank discussion among alumni and friends.
As we are around the holidays, a Christmas-themed Turkey Buffet will be served.

About the Speaker
Mr. Paul Cheng WG'61, JP has been active both as a corporate leader and in politics. He was a member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council prior to 1998 and was involved with Hong Kong’s return to Chinese sovereignty during 1994 and 1998 as a member of the Preparatory Committee. This committee was established by the Central Government in Beijing and its membership included Vice Ministers of all major ministries and selected individuals from Hong Kong. He was formerly Chairman of Inchcape Pacific Limited, a major trading conglomerate employing over 6,000 people throughout Asia, and N.M. Rothschild & Sons (Hong Kong) Ltd., a prominent family-controlled investment bank as well as on the board of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. He was Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in 1987. He also served as Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce between 1992 and 1994 and was a Steward of the Hong Kong Jockey Club in 1990’s.
In 2005, he was invited by the Hong Kong Government to lead the IPO of LINK REIT as Chairman. The company managed a portfolio of government-owned retail and car parking assets valued at over HK$ 30 billion. The privatization was at that time the world’s largest Real Estate Investment Trust.
Mr. Cheng is a Justice of Peace. He was made an honorary citizen of Nanjing in Jiangsu Province, China, in September 1994, and was also appointed an Economic Advisor to the city. In 2001, he was made an honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in recognition of his community service and that of the Chinese University of Hong Kong for his contribution towards education and community service.
He received the Independent Non-Executive Director of the Year award by the Hong Kong Institute of Directors in 2009. He had authored a book with his pinyin name Zheng Mingxun entitled “On Equal Terms – Redefining China’s Relationship with America and the West” in 2011.
Born in China, he grew up in Hong Kong and received his higher education in the United States. He has a B.A. degree from Lake Forest College (Illinois, U.S.A) and received his M.B.A. degree from the Wharton Graduate School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
